The Mystery wasn't to be revealed until last Friday, but Bonnie couldn't wait. I had just finished up all my clues and was looking forward to no sewing until Friday. Well the group on Facebook couldn't resist showing how some of their tops were going to look. So I gave in and put a few up on my Design Wall to take a picture. Here's mine:
Some of the quilters are turning every other Birds in the Air block. I kinda like the look so I'm going to turn some of mine and see how I like the look on my quilt.
Only the chevrons in the block are turned to make the new block. I'll have to put more blocks up and get a bigger effect in order to decide.

Get 'R Done October 2013
My list last month was light.
I was getting ready to work on Doug's quilt and found that the back was smaller than the top. I had to order fabric to get it done. Well with the thanks of Bonnie's Quilt Cam last night, I was able to get three borders on the back and the fourth is cut and ready to go. That is getting done this morning.

I'm not showing this again until I have a finished bound quilt ready to give to my son.
October's Get 'R Done list:
Quilt Carpenter's Star
Finish Doug's quilt, enlarge backing, quilt, bind
If there is any time left, I will work on
Sew applique on Arin's quilt borders.
Please join me in seeing what other quilters are doing. This post is being linked to Judy's Get 'R Done

My Design Wall 9-16-2013
My design wall last night. I didn't have any more time to sew blocks into rows. One row of blocks is on my sewing machine ready to go. The top half are all sewn together. Looks like I have three rows to go. I did spend some time online purchasing some ric-rack for the vines. I'm going to have a border with applique flowers, birds and butterflies. Just like in the magazine. No imagination. Well, it will look great and I don't want to make the body any larger.
I thought I might work on my son's jean quilt and found out I didn't make the back large enough and I used the leftover of it on another quilt. So I ordered more fabric for enlarging the back.

Design Wall 9/2/2013
This is my design wall as of Monday evening. It is a quilt I saw Liz Porter demonstrate on Fon's and Porter Love of Quilting Saturday. She names it Emily's Wedding Quilt. It is made up of two blocks to create a secondary pattern. TheShoFly block and the 54-50 or Fight block. She used repro 30's fabric and I'm using my batiks. After looking at the picture of these blocks, I find I need to replace a triangle square in the second secondary pattern block. It is too light and looks like the block isn't finished. I have since taken all that batik out of the mix.
I don't have a person in mind yet for this quilt. It will most likely only be a double or queen. It just depends on how long it takes and if I get bored and want to start something new.

Get 'R Done September
September already? My Get 'R Done August list I knew would be sketchy. I got one quilt quilted. That's all. I had a lot of company and was out of town some of it.
This is Tina's first quilt. I quilted leaves or hearts on it. She will be using it as a lap quilt for her couch.
September's list will be August's list of tying my son's jean quilt and quilting my Carpenter's Star quilt.

Get 'er Done - August 2013
Get 'er Done for August will be skimpy this month. I am on vacation in Montana and will be on vacation into the second week of August when my daughter and grandkids will be in Oregon with me the following week.
I am going to attempt to quilt my friend's jean quilt so it can travel back with my daughter.
Tie my son's jean and crown royal quilt.
And if time allows, I want to quilt my Carpenter's Star.
This post is being linked to Judy's Patchwork Quilting Check the link out to see what others are doing.
I don't have any pictues of the tops this week so here's a beautiful butterfly I photographed on my patio a while back.

Design Wall June 10, 2013
I saw both these designs on two of the quilt shows I watch on television. The first one is Elle's Quilt in a Day show. I thought I'd try them both out maybe for tablerunners. My sister is coming for her annual vacation from Singapore and I thought I may make one of these up for her.
The first one is called Twin Sisters. I would be totally scrappy. I experimented with a couple of sizes. I really like the large blocks when piecing a large quilt and the small one for maybe a tablerunner or corner blocks.

I think this one is called Twirling Triangles. This one I saw on Fons and Porter. I just happen to have a 60 degree triangle and thought I would try it out. I like it. I goes together great,. No "y" seams, just straight line sewing. I've made a couple of halves. This picture was taken when I'd only had one done. I like it.

Last Week in My Quilt Studio
I have been working on finishing some projects before my daughter and her children come to visit this summer. Jessee's quilt is finished.
Back
Then onto Jana's quilt.
Back
Then onto Jana's quilt.
I'm binding it now in the evening when I'm watching tv.
I have had this top done for awhile and thought this morning that it would be nice for my youngest granddaughter, Dani. It's a lap quilt and I'm backing it in two shades of purple flannel.
I wanted to get something posted to my blog seeing that it's been more than a month since I've posted. I have a couple of drafts and will try to get them posted in the next few days.

Design Wall 1/21/2013
Not much going on on My Design Wall. These are Crown Royal Bags that will be the quilt back of my son's Jean Quilt. I have several of them taken apart but aren't ready for sewing into rows yet. The pattern is laying by the side of the bags. The white space will be made out of purple flannel. I hope to get some of the blocks trimmed and sewed together.

My Design Wall December 31, 2012
Not on my design wall but a completion none the less. This is my last finished quilt from my UFO list of 2012. Judy called for Number 2 in May. This is my grandson, Jessee's quilt. When they were here this fall, he decided that he liked this one better. So the original number 2 is not done, yet. Jessee's new quilt wasn't a UFO, it was a Color Pallette Challenge. She named hers Sweet Tart and I named my Skittles. It was a project in conjunction with Vicki's May Color Pallette Challenge.
I posted earlier about my tension problems. I finished it but still had a lot of thread breakage. Jessee choose the back and since I didn't have enough for the whole back, I pieced it. I think it turned out good.
I think Jessee will love it.

My Design Wall 10-29-12
The only thing on my design wall was posted on September 9. It's still there. But I have been working on some projects. I am making a couple more boy scout vests for my grandson's pak. I attended MQX West and took some classes. Here are some of the designs I have been practicing on my longarm.
Not all of them but a few. I'm thinking some of these will become my favorites.
I also took some time on Sunday to put in a new zipper on a favorite jacket. Then discovered that my new (month-old) purse had a hole in it. I had to fix it becuase that was where I put my keys. What a disaster that would be.
We had some homemade meals this weekend. Chicken Pot Pie and Chili with cornbread. Something about fall that makes me want comfort food.
Thanks for visiting and please visit Judy's blog and Homestead Revival's Barn Hop this week.

Design Wall 10-8-2012
This quilt is off the longarm and onto my lap. I'm binding it. This was a UFO project labelled "Jan's quilt". It also is a BOM. I finished the top a couple of years ago and just never finished it. I guess I wasn't crazy about the colors. I like it, but not for me. It uses a lot of my stash, which I'm glad for. Judy hasn't called this UFO yet. When she does, I'll be done. Then I can catch up on the ones she has called.
I'll finish the binding in the evenings while we are watching tv. I've also started on the back for my son's quilt. He wanted the back to be made out of Crown Royal purple flannel bags. I took a Craftsy class by Angela Walters a while back on designing backs. I think I may do something different for his back. She's also going to be here next week for MQX West. I'm taking a couple of classes from her. I can hardly wait. I haven't been to a single quilt show this year. I'm saving my money and time for MQX West.

My Design Wall 7-1-2012
Judy at Patchwork Times is having a Quilt Along. The quilt we are making is Nicole's Sofa Quilt. So far I am all caught up with the instructions. We are going out of town for the 4th Holiday so I'll have to catch up when we get back. This is what is on My Design Wall this week.
Last week I showed you a Robin's nest just outside our front door. They've all hatched and now they just have a bit of fluff. I think my Bird Book says they'll fledge anywhere from 14-16 days.
Sorry for the short post but it's been busy around here with work, garden, chickens and plain life. More to come when we get back to town.
Happy 4th everyone!

Past Week
I went to the coast this last week for work with a coworker and we zoomed past several barns and businesses toting quilt squares. If you zoom in on this one you can see the square. I thought it was so cool to see so many of them. Next trip I'm going to slow down and get some better pictures.
Next to the walkway in front of our house is this knarly ornamental hazelnut tree (tall bush). It's not even 5 feet tall but an American Robin chose it for her nest.
Inside it, as far as I could see were 4 of the most beautifully colored eggs. They should be hatching in a couple of weeks.
And today, I finally got to do some sewing. I mended Doug's work jeans for about the tenth time. Just trying to get some more wear out of them.
This fabric has been sitting around for a year. I bought it at a clearance sale at Hancocks in Billings, MT last year on vacation. It was meant for my kitchen valance. Today, I finally got it made. I don't know what took me so long to do it.
I hope to be able to talk a bit more tomorrow about some more sewing I got done. I hope to get to quilt a couple of rows on Jan's quilt. That is also my UFO for June. I'm not sure I'll get it completed. We have a busy week next week getting ready for a trip to eastern Oregon for Doug's brother's birthday party.

My Design Wall 6-4-2012
I got a couple of good days in of sewing this weekend. I finished up the borders Sunday. This was a Color Palette Challenge put on by Vicki at Field Trips in Fiber coordinated with Judy who designed the quilt top using EQ7. I used only my stash to construct the top. Judy called hers Sweet Tart and I'm calling my Skittles. I'm thinking this will go to my nephew once it's quilted.
My broody hen's due date was yesterday. Are they ever overdue? We candled one last week and it looked viable. I wish she would hurry. I know this can't be good on her.

My Design Wall 5-28-2012
I was able to sew most of Saturday. Doug had to work so I took advantage of it. I got the top pretty near finished except the last border.
I haven't decided what to use for the last border. I guess it will depend on how much fabric I have or how much of several fabrics I have.

UFO List 2012
Edit:
Somehow I forgot to post my UFO list in January. I've finished 5 of them so far. I'm a little behind but hope to catch up by the end of the year.
I had compiled my list with pictures of my UFOs (unfinished objects) for Judy's challenge way back in January. I forgot to post it. So before any more time flys by here's my list.
Judy at Patchwork Times is have a UFO Challenge for 2012. I've thought about entering it but wasn't sure if I could keep on task to complete one UFO a month. But if the challenge helps to motivate me to accomplish any, then I'll have succeeded. Here's my list:
1. Small charity quilt. Needs binding
2. Jessee's quilt. Only top is completed
3. St. Paul Parochial School charity auction quilt. Top completed
4. Jan's quilt. Top completed
5. Jana's quilt. Top completed
6. Springtime Churndash quilt. Top completed
7. Applique wallhanging. Binding needed
8. Louise's batik stars quilt. Binding needed
9. BOM Star quilt. Piecing, quilting and binding needed
10. BOM quilt as you go. Piecing, quilting and binding needed
11. Boy Scout vests.
12. Blue tablerunner. Binding needed
.
Well, seeing it written down is reality. I am going to make a concerted effort to get all these done by December 31, 2012
